Play Rugby Academy Teams Head to NY State Championship
The most anticipated HS rugby event of the season, Rugby NY State Championships, are taking place on the first weekend of June, in Binghamton, NY. After a very successful regular season, both the U18 Academy Boys and Girls teams will be battling it out, in hopes of bringing home the title.
The Academy Boys have a history of performing well at States, moving up each year. This year they will be competing in Tier 1 and will most likely face Xavier HS in the final. They have a tough couple of games ahead of them but the team has grown and succeeded immensely within the regular season. They have truly embraced the Play Rugby “Go Forward” mantra, so we know that they will do well!
This season, the Academy Girls team joined forces with New York Rugby Club! The two teams combined so that they could have a big enough roster for a 15’s season, and it’s been great for all involved! The Girls will face some tough competition at States, but they’re fortunate that two of their current coaches actually helped to win the championship back in 2014! Throughout the regular season, they have shown that they are resilient and are able to play what they see, no matter what competition they face. They’ve demonstrated incredible teamwork and won’t shy away from pulling out all the stops throughout the weekend.
We will be cheering from the sidelines, and if you’re in the area, we hope you will come and join us! If you’d like to support our Academy Teams on their journey to this year’s championship, please make a gift on our website today!
