Now Hiring – HS Boys Head Coach
Play Rugby is seeking a full-time HS Boys Academy Head Coach to join our team and play a vital role in delivering positive youth development on and off the rugby pitch.
The Head Coach is responsible for the on-the-ground execution of their teams, including recruitment and retention of players. The Head Coach will be the main point of contact for all Youth Development Mentors and volunteers involved with their respective teams, and will be responsible for developing session plans, leading sessions, reporting feedback, and ensuring buy-in from all involved. Most importantly, the Head Coach must be present at both on- and off-field events, develop vital connections with the players and families, and positively contribute to the growth of the entire Academy program.
This role requires participation in evening/weekend practices throughout New York City, as well as weekend travel for games/tournaments throughout the tri-state area.
Core Responsibilities:
- Serve as the primary contact for all participants and families, communicating utilizing platforms approved by the organization
- Attend all on-field and off-field sessions (practices, games, wraparound supports)
- Manage the competitive schedule, acting as the main point of contact for the league/union and coordinating all logistics, including travel
- Create and document a session plan and session report for each session, in collaboration with the YDM team
- Ensure that every participant completes new player onboarding and maintains their eligibility status throughout the season by meeting the minimum requirements
- Work with the Program Director to ensure proper data/record keeping daily, weekly and seasonally
- Work with the Program Director to execute recruitment activities, including community outreach, site visits, demos and individual player identification
- Provide individual college/career mentorship to players, including but not limited to college workshops, financial aid/application support, recruitment meetings, college visits, etc.
- Support the Parent Committee captains for your team to ensure successful execution of the Parent Committee mission statement
- Actively promote the Academy program by capturing photo/video content, collecting player success stories, participating in community events, etc.
- Create and maintain a safe, open and welcoming environment that is free from bullying, harassment, hazing and abuse
Youth Development Responsibilities:
- Utilize the Play Rugby curriculum, with a focus on youth development outcomes.
- Get to know individual players and families so that both you and Play Rugby can act as a source of support
- Work closely with the Play Rugby team to receive feedback on coaching approach and style and be open to growing and adapting as a Play Rugby Academy coach
- Participate in all trainings, as mandated by Play Rugby and the responsibilities of the role
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university.
- A passion for youth development.
- Strong rugby coaching background.
- Experience working with young people.
- Exceptional teamwork skills, including the ability to give and receive direct, productive feedback.
- Strong project and process management skills, including the ability to execute logistics and planning processes.
- Comfort with holding oneself and others accountable to high standards.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated connection and commitment to the Bronx or Harlem communities.

Compensation and Benefits:
The salary range for this role is $50,000- $53,000. Benefits include employer- supported health insurance (medical, dental, vision), paid holidays, and generous PTO.
