Academy Seniors Win PSAL Wingate Awards for Rugby

Wingate Awards are given to the best student-athletes in their respective sports

The Play Rugby family would like to congratulate our Academy seniors, Destiny Quinones and Dylan Swincicki, for receiving the prestigious PSAL Wingate Award for Girls Rugby and Boys Rugby respectively. Despite many worthy nominees of PSAL rugby participants, Destiny and Dylan, were honored with these awards.

Destiny Quinones started her rugby journey three years ago. As a sophomore, Destiny was new to rugby and eager to learn. She joined the Play Rugby USA Academy and continued to learn and build upon her knowledge and skill base. After missing much of her Junior season, she was determined to come back as a Senior captain and lead her team on and off the field. Her constant drive to get better and see her teammates improve on a daily basis was evident. Along with her strong skill set and work ethic on the field, Destiny excels in the classroom and will be attending SUNY Oswego in the Fall of 2019.

Boys Rugby Winner:
Dylan Swincicki

Dylan has been on the JMHS Rugby team for four years. He has also been captain of the team for three years. Dylan has be a great ambassador to the sport at his school. He has helped recruit many of the players that currently play on the team. He would hold his own practices with his teammates at Marine Park on the weekends. Rugby has become a big part of his life. He has dedicated much of his time to the sport of rugby. Not only does he play for James Madison but he also plays on the Play Rugby USA’s 15s and 7s teams. He will be heading to Nazareth College in upstate New York to continue playing rugby at the Collegiate level. Dylan is also a dedicated student. He in the James Madison’s law program and does very well. He is known as a very passionate and vocal student, who challenges classmates in educational debates. Dylan is also a member of the football team.
