NYC Marathon Runner Feature: Kali Kirkland
We are one week closer to the 2019 NYC Marathon which takes plays on Sunday, November 3, 2019! As an official non-profit partner, Play Rugby has been given the opportunity to sponsor five runners. Not only is each runner taking on the challenge of completing the marathon but pledging to raise at least $2,500 t in support of our vision: To Create a Better World Through Rugby! We hope you will consider making a donation to our marathon team and offer words of encouragement through their fundraising page.
To aid their efforts, we’ve been featuring our runners. This week, we have Kali!

Hometown: I’m originally from OH and moved to NYC when I was 17 for college, which makes it almost a decade since I’ve been living in the city.
Profession: I’m the Events Director for Inn at Windmill Lane in Amagansett, NY. Where I split time between NY and eastern Long Island.
Hobbies: I love being outdoors, the beach especially. I thrive a the beach! I am into anything that makes the mind, body, and soul feel better. I meditate on a daily basis. I enjoy spending time with my awesome crew of friends, whether that’s wine nights in, or karaoke bars in Nashville, we always have the best time. I love traveling to new cities. I have a 2-year-old dog named Allie and I love spending time with her going on hikes and to parks. I love to read, play the piano when I feel inspired, and in general, I just try to live a positive and grateful life!
Reason for running the NYC Marathon: I signed up for the challenge! 2018-2019 was a year of growth for me. I explored new parts of myself and set goals that I’m so happy I met. I took up running in the winter/spring, and really fell in love and wanted to challenge myself to a marathon. Of course, meeting new friends and amazing people is always a plus, and raising awareness for Play Rugby makes it all the worthwhile. I think organized sports are so great for kids, and I love the mission.
Expectations for this exciting fundraising experience: I’m excited! I have an abundance of family, friends, colleagues who would love to donate, and I am happy to put up the money myself. My biggest obstacle is going to be training and diet, and really just mastering my thoughts to not quit!
