Play Rugby USA Awarded Laureus Grant

Play Rugby is honored to be the recipient of a $25,000 Sport for Good grant from Laureus USA, for the second year in a row, to support the growth of the Play Rugby Academy.

The Play Rugby Academy provides rugby training and competition, youth development and educational resources to help put young people on a path to success. Our programs are designed specifically to address the unique challenges of youth growing up in high-risk communities. Through our unique values-based curriculum, students build and develop the social and emotional skills needed to help them be successful on the field, in the classroom, at home and in their communities. The Academy currently serves over 100 young people, predominantly from Harlem and the South Bronx.

“We are very proud and grateful for the continued support of Laureus,” says Wil-Snape Rogers, Executive Director of Play Rugby USA. “As we look to build back stronger from the pandemic, providing new meaningful resources to the young people in our programs, Laureus have played a huge supporting role both as a funder and a thought partner.”

The funds from Laureus USA will help Play Rugby grow participation for High School girls as well as support the development of robust off-field workshops and mentorship, particularly in the area of college and career readiness.
